Instead of taking a bus or plane, we decided to try the overnight train to get to Chiang Mai. Since it had been so hot outside (and so hot inside the hostel rooms and temples), we thought it would be a good idea to splurge and get the air-conditioned sleeper car for the fourteen hour train journey. The train was very old and very metal and rambled into the station nearly half an hour late. We were lucky enough to have a nice train station worker befriend us to make sure we got on the correct train and into the correct air-conditioned car. Never would we have imagined it could be so cold! It was so cold that it was nearly impossible to sleep! We were like little ice cubes in an old-fashioned aluminum ice cube tray, rattling up the train track into the hills of Chiang Mai.
